Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been diagnosed with sludge in my gall bladder. Pain has been fairly well controlled via a low fat diet, but since last night I have been having a burning sensation that has been fairly constant in, the same place as always - upper abdomen slightly to the right side - no other symptoms. I take omeprazole for acid reflux, and blood pressure meds.
Your symptoms may be due to gall bladder sludge. It is a mixture of particulate solids that are precipitated from bile. Gall bladder sludge may be seen in pregnancy, rapid weight loss, after surgery etc. Clinical course of biliary sludge varies. It often vanishes with treatment of underlying cause, other cases wax and wane and some form gallstones.
Asymptomatic patients with sludge or small calculi require no therapy where as symptomatic or complicated cases may need cholecystectomy. You need proper clinical evaluation.
