gastritis is the inflammatory condition of gastric region and once it is there then it demands the medical attention and underlying cause of it is matter of concern, it can be due to diet, it can be drug induced and it can be because of
acid peptic disease, you have not mentioned the symptoms else it would have been differentiated well or confirmed, because it may not be the gastritis. Heart burning is nothing but the
hyperacidity, and it may be one of the cause of gastritis, PPI (
Proton pump inhibitor) is the best drug for it,
Omeprazole can be tried once in day and it need to be continued for few weeks ( Depends upon the underlying cause and the age of patient) meanwhile it is advisable avoid taking spicy food, heavy meal, coffee, smoking and alcohol, eat more alkali diet, OTC is not advisable it may some time cause the gastritis.
