Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have anemia and reduced kidney function for several months. I am being treated with folic acid and have stopped taking an RA drug. Now I have green stools for several days and also about3 weeks afo , as well. Do they connect? Should I be seeing my doctor again?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood your concerns. Anemia, reduced kidney functions can reduce the immunity power and cause various infections, one of the commonest is respiratory tract and another is gastrointestinal tract that can get infected. Green stools is indicative of an intestinal infection and needs the stool and blood tests to get a proper diagnosis. A course of an antibiotic, metronidazole and probiotics should help you. Take activated charcoal and yogurt. Check of the foods and beverages that are not sanitized and avoid then all the times to avoid development of such infections. Boiled and cooled water and homemade foods only should be used. Continue taking folic acid and other medications after you consult your Doctor.
