What Causes Grey/ Green Stool After Changing The Diet?

Have just started very low carb eating regimen three days ago and today stool color is VERY pale. Light grey and a bit green. Obviously this is due to change in diet - but what are causes and is it unhealthful? I am presuming I will adjust and return to normal soon, right?

Hi,
Welcome to HCM.

Yes eating low carb or even spinach might cause slightly greenish stools but as you said u had a grey or green colored stool then it can occur in various conditions like excess unprocessed bile (which is to be digested by certain enzymes) or iron supplements,or iron rich diet or Protozoa infestation etc.

You can go for stool R/M examination done but there is no need to worry as it is not the indication of unhealthy food and your stool color will return to normal once you will resume your routine diet.

Still if you have any doubt then visit your family physician.

Regards,
