What Causes Growth In The Ear Diminishing The Hearing By 90%?

i have a growth in my right ear canal, my PCP s PA referred me to an ENT, it prevents observation of the entire hearing membrane and has deminished my hearing by 90% in that ear. What are the possibilities? Must it be cancer or perhaps a benign mass, like a mole?
