What Causes Hacking Cough With Phlegm?

I am a female, 83 yrs young, up until 2 weeks ago in excellent health... 2 weeks ago I traveled to Hawaii for 4 days, upon returning home I had developed a cough that produced phlegm. After 4 days, I left for 4 days in. NewOrleans where I thought my condition was improving, but to my dismay on my return, it was worse. My eyes developed this yellow crust which is annoying. Should I be worried? What can I do?y

I completely understand your question
it seems like you have developed an upper respiratory infection
if sputum is yellow then its a bacterial infection and you need to consult a pulmonologist who can prescribe you some broad spectrum anti- biotics like cefexime for a week or two as needed , and he may request for a sputum culture and senstivity if needed .
wash your eyes with luke warm water three times a day ,
