What Causes Hallucinations In An Elderly Person?

My mother is 63 and experiencing what i would call hallucinations. a few weeks ago, she stared in the mirror for several minutes because she thought her hair was green. She left the room and came back, and she saw normal hair color again. last night, her arm involuntarily reached to her scalp and she felt an inch wide gap in her scalp. She kept rubbing it and said she felt like she was having a heart attack (she has panic attacks), because it scared her so badly. In a few minutes, the gap in her scalp was gone. Could she be having mini strokes or possible seizures?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Consult a neurologist at once. Will probably refer her to imaging,EEG. Without imaging etc.,since you describe no other symptoms,it would be impossible to determine the cause. Of course , in combination with basic blood tests. It is possible that drop of hemoglobine (anaemia), or to the contrary raised number of blood cells can cause this. Also sudden hypoglicaemias can also make people appear as you described

General & Family Physician Dr. Kathy Robinson's  Response
Hello,
Yes, seizures are possible but this could also be a brain tumor or early stages of dementia. She needs to see a neurologist as soon as possible and will need an MRI of the brain.
