Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My Mom is 93 & in general good health. Has had minor (common) memory issues related with age. About 2 months ago she started having vivid dreams that seem very real to her. My dad (who died a year ago) is visiting her & asking for a divorce ! She thinks other people are living in her apartment...she has gone from being perpetually cheerful to being very confused and troubled. She takes glaucoma medication in eye drop form: (Travoprost & Timolol & Azopt) plus Metoprolol for her blood pressure . She is in an assisted living community and they are pushing to put her in Memory Care. She hasn t done anything threatening or dangerous but they feel she is going beyond their care level in A.L. Again, this has happened fairly suddenly. She does not have a UTI ( tested for that already !). I m wondering if there could be a medication side-effect that has manifested itself in this way ??? We are very concerned. Thank you !
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I appreciate your concern for your beloved mom. Suspicious of psychosis until proved otherwise. After having gone through the history given in your query, I am of the opinion that your mom seems to be showing early features of psychosis. She needs to be evaluated by a psychiatrist for proper assessment and treatment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
