What Causes Hallucinations While On Ativan?
Hello, Thank you for this opportunity. I have heard Ativan can commonly have serious side effects on elderly people. Horror stories really. My father is presently hospitalized back east, is being treated with Ativan and suffering hallucinations. He has no history of dementia or other mental issues, but has been something of a closet alcoholic for years. Should I be overly concerned or trust that his doctors know best? Thank you again, Jim

Regarding your concern, you should know that your father clinical situation is related to his past history for alcohol abuse. Hallucinations are a common symptom of alcohol withdrawal syndrome.
So, I don't think that hallucinations are an adverse effect of Ativan.
