Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 88 yr old father was just released from VA Dallas hospital for urinary infection. He is on Cipro and has more to take now that he is home. Is hallucinating and was put in psych ward at VA until released, but side effects still evident. We (daughters) want him to stop Cipro and trying to reach VA to see when side effects will stop.
Ciprofloxacin does not cause the hallucination. If this is the urinary tract infection then it has to be treated with proper antibiotic and it can be chosen with the help of culture sensitivity. Let me inform you that none of the antibiotic causes the hallucination, it is the psychic condition that has its own reasons or reason. You can discuss this with the psychiatrist but medicine is not the cause.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
