What Causes Hard Bowel Movements?

Hi, I am 18 about 5'3 and 115 lbs. Every time I am about to start my period or within the first couple days of my period I get really bad cramps, (usually little amounts of blood), and I can't have a bowel movement, and when I do it is usually really soft or diarrhea (which only happens during these few days). It really hurts and I know I need to poop but no matter how hard I try nothing will come out and its gives me really painful cramps. Is there something wrong?
