What Causes Hard Lump On Base Of Skull To A 9 Year Old?

9 year grandson has a hard lump on the right side of the base of his skull - it is tender to the touch, circular in size.I noticed this lump about 10 days ago as I rubbed my hand up his neck. It is about the size of a peanut but has grown slightly larger in the past 10 days

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,
According to your discription I think it is an occipital lymph node. This will get swollen in case of an infection. Check the kids scalp as to whether there are any louse or boils in the head. If the node gets bigger or more nodes appear then do go to your doctor.

As of now you can wait.
Take care
