What Causes Hard Lump On Head On Left Side Of Skull?

I am a 20 year old female. I am 5'5" and I weigh about 145 lbs. A few weeks ago, I noticed a hard lump on my head. It is probably the size of a nickel. It is on the left side of my skull, near the ear. It is hard, like a bone. It doesn't hurt when I touch it. What could this be?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi! Good evening. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.

Even though it needs a clinical examination to decide on the lump, if I were your doctor, I would go for an x-ray skull to rule out a bony origin or a bony erosion due to the growth. In case it is not arising from bone, and is mobile, I would not hesitate to go for an excision biopsy of the lump. Further treatment would depend on the histo-pathology report.

I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.

Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. I wish you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
