Pain that goes from the neck and radiates down the arms can be referred pain from an injury to the muscles of the neck and shoulders. It can also be due to more serious causes like compression of nerves in your cervical spine, as might happen from disc disease or spinal stenosis. You did not mention if you had any type if injury prior to developing the pain. This could be important as the type and severity of the injury would be relevant in determining future management. If your pain does not get better on its own after a few days of rest, or if you develop any weakness in the arms (or legs) or changes in sensation, you should seek medical help right away.
