What treatment can help a 85yr old woman who suffers from daily headaches usually starting around 2 or 3 p.m. She often describes them as her head is going to explode. She all ready is on high dose medications for chronic arthritic pain., i.e. Fentanyl patches and Dilaudid 4x/day

Many things can cause headache . From simple causes like High Blood pressure , Eye sight problems , Sinus Congestion , Fever to some serious problems like Infection in the brain , Bleeding inside the brain , Ear Infections , etc .
Even long term use of Fentanyl can cause headache .
She needs to get evaluation done for all the above mentioned conditions especially get her Blood pressure and eyesight checked . Ask your doctor to give an alternative for Fentanyl .
