What Causes Headaches Along With White Out Vision?

Hello, i keep having white outs with my vision followed by headache. This was happening 2 years ago and my doctor said probably migraines but did not treat me. Today after leaving a building i experienced a total white-out of vision. Good thing my husband was driving. It was an unusually bright day with the sun shining. If I turned my head to my left or my right it got better. There was an old pair of sunglasses in the car and those helped. After about 20 min it went away but ai had a horrible headache. Could this simply be a migraine? It scares me.
