Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, my five year old has been telling us that her heart is beeping. It does not happen often but occasionally she will stop playing and come up to us and say listen my heart is beeping . And for a little over a week she has been saying that her heart hurts. Now I am very concerned. She touches the center of her chest when it happens (like once or twice a day) and it will last seconds. It has not affected her play she still runs and has never run out of breath. What could it be? I m scared. JE
Hi! I had gone through your question and understand your concern. If I were your girl treating doctor I would think only 2 possibilities and I would try to rule these out. -First thing I would think maybe your daughter has Gastroesophageal Reflux, that is a condition in which the stomach acid moves up into esophageus which connect the stomach to the throat. This can be the cause for chest pain or like burning sensation in her chest. If the pain appears particularly soon after meals, worse when lying flat or banding over, relieved bu antiacids or sitting upright I would treat her for reflux. -Second just to be sure I would rule out a cardiac malformation by performing a careful auscultation with stethoscope. If there are pathological murmurs I would continue with further evaluation.
