What Causes Heart Palpitations After Cocaine Usage?

patient is female. Age 52. Used cocaine & crack at age 20 for about 1 yr. then stopped. Now experiencing heart palipitations and occasional chest pain. Now Under doctor care and taking hi blood pressure med & H2O pill daily. she is concerned/remorseful that early drug use has caused these issues and are irreversible. Are they reversible. in last year has adopted vegetarian diet. watches salt intake. does not smoke, rarely has alcohol and if any it is red wine. has exercised regularly for past 10 yrs

I understand that you are concerned about your friend's health condition, especially about her chest pain and palpitations. Now, these symptoms can be due to a number of causes and it is necessary that she has a proper evaluation of her heart to establish the cause.

It is unlikely that these recent symptoms are the direct consequence of the cocaine habit which she had more than 30 years ago. So, I would suggest that you advise her to have a detailed evaluation (including certain investigations like ECG, etc.) in order to find out the cause of her symptoms.
