What Causes Heart Palpitations And Fluttering?

hi, my name is Laura age 29

I have heart palpitations and fluttering, i have had echo, stress test,x-rays pics of the heart and holter for two weeks, all the test came back normal. I also had blood work done......does this rule out heart problems?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is good to know that all the cardiac screening test reports are normal. It seems you do not have any heart problem at present. Heart palpitations can be due to anxiety or stress. Palpitations are due to stress or anxiety which releases hormones from the brain causing you to feel your heart pounding. You are young now but it is better to have control over such symptoms for it may result in Sinus tachycardia lately. You should have screening tests for any type of Thyroid disease. Maintain weight, do regular exercises, stay relaxed & avoid all addictions like alcohol, caffeine, tobacco, cocaine, amphetamines or any other drugs, etc. Eat healthy, take care.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

General Surgeon Dr. Shinas Hussain's  Response
Hi,

Heart rate may increase transiently during conditions like anxiety and fear. It is a transient response and it will revert to its original rate in couple of hours.

As your cardio work up is clean, nothing much to worry and no treatment is required.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
