Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am experiencing regular heart palpitatios especially at night. my thyroxine was increased from 25mcg to 50mcg in july. I have had 24hr heart monitor and told although I am having occasinal missed heart beats it is not enogh to worry about. I am still worried, shpuld I be?
I understand your concern and would explain that these missed heart beats could be related to the increase in the dose of thyroxine.
For this reason, I would recommend checking again thyroid hormone levels in order to perform the needed adjustment to the dose.
Another possible cause to consider, would would be a sleep disorder. You should know that during REM sleep or nightmares, our heart rate increases, causing even ectopic heart beats. But, they are quite normal and do not need any special treatment.
Hope you will find this answer helpful!
Wishing good health,
Dr. Iliri
