Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello I am a 25 year old female. I have high TPO antibodies but normal TSH level. For the past couple of months, I have been experiencing uncomfortable heart palpitations after eating, which goes on for a few hours and which makes lying down nearly impossible. All my heart tests have been normal. I really would like to know what could possibly be causing my symptoms.
Some people experience this troublesome issue particularly after heavy meals. Try to avoid foods rich in carbohydrates, carbonated drinks, chocolates, caffeine and alcohol. Add a portion of fiber to your diet like ispaghula husk.
Moreover, split the total amount of food you take in 24 hours to more than 3 portions. In this way, your digestive system will be exposed to lesser food at a given point of time to be handled much effectively. I hope these simple measures will work in your case.
If it is still not resolved, try to find out, is there any specific food which triggers palpitations. In which case, it will point towards food allergy. Regarding your thyroid status, serum free T3 and T4 will be advisable.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Syed Hashim Ali Shah, General & Family Physician
