What Causes Heaviness In The Chest?

Having heaviness in my chest that doesn t change for 16 hrs. with lots of belching and a fever of 101.7. My pulse and BP are fine. My girlfriend is a critical care nurse of 33yrs. and says I might have the flu or she says it could also be a hiatal hernia. She said I don t look like a heart attack- typical or atypical. The chest heaviness was in the middle of my chest but went away after sitting upright with pillows. But, I still have the fever which went down a little to 99.8 with tylenol and ibuprofen. I am feeling very weak. No coughing or anything like that. I am not short of breath. (I m on her computer, she has a laptop) Mark

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I really appreciate your concern, fever with chest pain could be due to infection and it can be virus or bacteria in case of virus it just do nothing but have rest, and take care for fever high grade fever can be managed with, Paracetamol, and to rule out the bacterial infection routine blood test with chest X-ray is must. I would advise you to get these done, chest pain could be due to acid peptic disease and fever may be some time part of this, if it is the infection state if it is the febrile state of more than 5 days the better to see the doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. A G Shaikh
