What Causes Heavy Bleeding 2 Weeks After Delivery?

Hi i gave birth 2 weeks ago and i had dark red heavy bleeding for the first week then it slowed down and changed to a pinky-red colour, then on friday 14th it started up dark red and heavy again and it has a foul smell to it and im soaking a pad every 2 hours but i feel fine.

Hi dear and thanks for your query.


Bleeding so heavy that you change your pad every two hours and with a foul smell is not a good sign.
This is called late postpartum haemorrhage (PPH).
It may be caused by a piece of membrane or retained placenta.

Hence contact with your doctor because you may need to do an ultrasound examination to confirm the reason.
You can be treated with antibiotics, or you may need a minor operation to remove the rest of the placenta.
