Hi, My husband has a hernia and we are trying to figure out if it happened at work or home and were wondering if the doctor can tell how long he has had it?

As he is having hernia, it is not clear weather this inguinal hernia or umbilical or incisional hernia.
How it appeared and how much long he has is of not of much important.
Consult surgeon and discuss about he requires surgery or not.
Discuss about not growing hernia further is of importance.
