What Causes Herpes Simplex Viral Type 1 And 2 Infection?

My ex husband just told me that he tested positive for herpes type 1 & 2. When we got together 20 years ago, been divorced 2 years now, he said he did not have it. I know I did not because I saw my test results come back negative. My question is...if I did not have it all through the 20 years with him, then how does he have it now? Through sex with someone else? Or is there another way?

Hello
Welcome to hralth care magic.
HSV1 and HSV 2 infections are transmitted by direct skin contact, oral or genital secretions. It is not necessarily transmitted only by sexual intercourse.

People getting this infection may remain asymptomatic in 60-70% of cases. So it is quite possible that one can carry the infection in body without any visible skin lesions but capable of infecting others.

I advise you to get tested for other sexually transmitted diseases too.You may meet STD expert in that regard.

Hope I answered your query.
