i am 48 female and very fit? do weights in the gym 3 to 4 times a week box fit classes 3 times a week, 1 boxing lesson per week and sparring of 2 mins sparring on saturday (sparring 4 - 5 different opponents male/females)for 1 hour. My BP is 132/64 is that normal, doctor said it was? I dont recall ever seeing that high(top figure) before. My height is 5'6" and weight 71kg
Dear Madam Thanks for your query. Any blood pressure more than 115/75 mmHg is not good in absolute terms. Rise of 20/10 mmHg above this doubles the risk of heart attack and stroke. However one needs no medication till it touches 140/90 mmHg or there is evidence of end organ damage. From this level to 140/90, you require life style modification. This involves low salt diet, meditation, weight control (you have excess weight), daily exercise and moderation of alcohol intake. Sincerely Sukhvinder
