My blood pressure is 154 over 100 I was in the hospital for 3 days trying to figure out what caused it I m 24 years old, they did every test possible and it came back normal I was put on blood pressure meds when I left and it s still high what should I do now?
Dear I can understand your concern . One thing I would like to inform you that most of the time in more than 90 to 95 % patients there is no cause of hypertension and we label it as primary hypertension . In few cases we suspect for any secondary cause of hypertension and we do work up to search that causes.in your case age less than 30 years is an indication to look for those causes . .such as any renal diseasepheochromocytoma or any other adrenal pathology hyperthyroidism or hypothyrodism etc.now if you are diagnosed correctly with hypertension then I would like to suggest you about few life style modifications that are equally important such as salt and saturated fat restricted diet that is rich in vegetables and fruits .maintain BMI less than 25 . Do regular exercise that is 30 minutes brisk walk..stop alcohol or if not possible drink in moderation . Apr from this compliance with the antihypertensive is must..With regular follow up for bp monitoring . We have to keep bp in normal range in order to avoid it's harmful effects on various body parts.hope this will help.
