What Causes High TSH Level With T3 And T4 Levels Normal?
Hi,
I have "high" TSH levels (4.86) but apparently "normal" T3 and T4 levels (T3= 3.37 in a 2-4.4 range; T4= 1.34 in a 0.9 -2.0 range). I have had high stress levels over the last few months, but I don't think the adrenal gland was tested (don't know how to tell). Any ideas what could cause high TSH with normal T3 and T4? They want me to take thyroid replacement hormones, but I'm not sure about the diagnosis. Could a pituitary or other tumor also be present?
Dear user, high TSH with normal T3 and normal T4 suggest sub clinical hypothyroidism. it is the initial stage of thyroid under functioning. so pituitary tries to compensate by overproducing TSH. no pituitary tumor or adrenal involvement is suspected. it is simply sub clinical hypothyroidism. you may start replacement with thyroxine. regards!
