What Causes High Blood Pressure After Chemotherapy?

Hello my mother is under chemo therapy and right after 4th round her blood pressure has been elevating. She gets iv hydration twice a week and doctors recently put her on lisinopril (5mg) once a day. Yesterday they increased to 10 mg. Just checked blood pressure and it is 153/93. Second time was 147/97. Can you tell me why is this happening? Is it the iv hydration?

Hi welcome to HCM.
I understand your query and concern.
High blood pressure post chemotherapy is due to cardiac involvement especially the infiltrative cardiomyopathy.IV hydration has no effects in causing direct significant effects on blood pressure.Lisinopril can be increased to 10 mg every day until the VP is brought under 130/80 mm of hg.I advise you to have a baseline 2 dimensional echocardiography,ECG and lipid profile to assess the basic cardiac reserve of your heart.Restrict the intake of salt to less than 6g/day.Regular physical exercise in the form of brisk walk for 20 min a day for 5 days a week is pretty useful.Drugs like antihypertensives and antiarrhythmics will help.Reduce the intake of fatty and fried food. One pomegranate a day will help to keep your heart at good pace without clot formation. Consult a Cardiologist for further expert management.Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.
