Is it possible that pancreas start to produce high amounts of glucagon hormone after meals? I know it shouldnt do that, but my blood glucose rises high every time after meal. I am diabetic and i use novo rapid insulin. There is no sense that my blood glucose is high even without carbohydrates and after a big shot of insulin
Hello welcome to HCM. I have read your question and understand your concerns. NO.Glucagon can not be increased after meal, it's your insulin requirements which is high actually now.
My advice to you is -
You can start LONGER acting insulin at least one time a day. Which will maintain basic levels of insulin along with your novorapid insulin.
Do your FBS, PP2BS AND HBA1c report every 3 monthly for adequate sugar control.
Do brisk walking daily with regular diet control. Make frequent small meals rather than heavy meals at 2 times .
Hi....thanks for using HCM As you told both glucagon and insulin is produced from the pancreas, which has got opposite actions.Glucagon increases blood sugar values and insulin decreases blood sugar values.Usually after having food insulin will be secreted and it will reduce sugar values. In Type 2 DM there will be insulin resistance and the insulin produced won't enough to decrease the sugar values.Hence we have to give insulin from outside. One other problem is there is an enzyme called DPP4 which degrades the insulin very fast.If we can reduce the DPP4 concentration ,it will help to reduce the after food sugar values. The tablets are called Gliptins.I think Gliptins are a good option for you... thank u....
