Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I'm 72 years of age, I'm 5'1/2", weigh 113lbs and have COPD for 10 years - lately my pulse rate has increased from 65 to 100 or over while doing nothing...............Yet, my oxygen is 96 to 99; my BP is 110 over 70 - this is primarily occurring at night while trying to sleep. What's happening?
I am sorry to hear that you are having elevated heart rates. From your description you are a healthy 72 year old and have COPD. An elevated heart rate is something to be concerned about. If the elevated heart rate is accompanied by either chest pain or light headedness then I recommend you seek immediate attention as this could be a serious condition. without chest pain you may have atrial fibrillation or other rhythm abnormality. I recommend that you see your doctor who can better define the cause of your elevated heart rate
