my boyfriend has had a high level of sugar ranging form 230 to 300 for the past 4 days. he keeps saying it's the way he eats and lately he has not been eating healthy but could that be the reason for the high levels. on top of that he takes 3 pills in one day. i'm worried please help?
Hi, thanks for posting your concern in HCM. First, I would say that diet and lifestyle changes are the most critical part in the management of diabetes. And your boyfriend has a poorly controlled diabetes. Please get him the following tests done- fasting and 2 hr post prandial plasma glucose, HBA1c and fasting lipid profile. I don't know what pills he has been taking. But, with these reports he might need insulin too. But, above all, he needs to be on a high fibre diet with restricted fat and refined carbohydrates. Exercise is also very much needed. Write back to us for any further information. Thanks and best wishes. Dr. Kaushik
