What Causes Hives Post Venlafaxine And Duloxetine Intake?

After taking venlafaxine for about 6 months, my sister broke out in hives and a rash. She was taken off it (tried slowly, but had to just plain stop it), then was started on duloxetine about 2-3 weeks ago. The rash and hives have continued. 1.Could it be that both drugs produced the same extremely rare side effect of rash and hives? 2. Is this a dangerous situation? (She s seeing her doctor once a week.)

Hi,

It can be allergic eruption.

You can take antihistamines like Pheniramine for symptomatic relief.

Nothing much to worry as it will settle in couple of days, if symptoms persist you can consult a physician and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
