What Causes Hotness In My Face After Taking Acyclovir?

I took a medication today Acyclovir. I have taken it before but my face got very hot like the way it would if I had taken niacin and get a flush. It s better now but still buzzy and my lips feel weird. I wonder if it was from the acyclovir or a coincedence. I wonder how long it will take to be completely gone. If it was from the medication will the buzzy hot feeling of my face go away once the med is completely out of my system. Should I go to the hospital?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this reaction you got. For now, it is difficult to tell if it were a coincidence or not but this is a not a commonly observed side effect of acyclovir. I will suggest that you monitor for similar symptoms with the next doses. If it occurs, then there are reasons to think that the drug is a possible cause and investigate for management. Keep us update with the next available information.

I hope this helps. I wish you well and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
