What Causes Hypertension While On Amlodipine And Metoprolol?

Good afternoon! Inquiring for my mother who is prescribed amlodipine, 5mg, metoprolol succ. 25 mg, and cionidine 1mg for high blood pressure. She hasn t had a history of high blood pressure but has been told she has 3rd stage kidney disease. Recently the doctor doubled the dose of the metroprolol and since then her legs have felt like wooden legs. red and tight....and very sore. she has been told to go back to the one, 25 mg dose but has not had any change in her legs. They told her they didn t want to give her a diuretic because of her kidney disease (which she may not have). What do you suggest?

Hello,

3rd stage kidney disease (eGFR 30-59 mL/min/1.73 m2) is likely to have resistant hypertension and will require multiple BP lowering drugs.

She might be having lower limb oedema either due to CKD or Amlodipine induced. Diuretic (non-potassium sparing) can be used in CKD. Treating physician is the best judge.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
