Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a non-drinker non smoker who rarely eats meat but I have just been told my cholesterol is 6.3 (good cholesterol is 2.3) and previously I had a very low chlolesterol level, around 2.6. What could be the cause of the increase. I walk about 2-3 miles/day and never eat sweets or cakes.
You should know that there are several factors contributing in your cholesterol decrease :
-diet modifications (high fat and sugar diet) -lack of physical exercise -endocrinological disorders (thyroid dysfunction, adrenal gland dysfunction ,etc.) -liver disease, etc.
You should know that the total cholesterol is not an indicator of your cardiovascular risk.
Total cholesterol/HDL ratio is a better indicator. As far as I understand your "good cholesterol" (HDL) is 2.3. This means that this ratio is almost 3 at your case, which indicates a very low risk of cardiovascular disease.
So do not worry about it ! You don't need any therapy.
Hope to have been helpful!
Best regards!
Dr. Iliri
