What Causes Increase In The Thickness Of Uterine Lining?

I found out that I have a 1.4cm uterine lining after having a pelvic ultrasound done. The ultrasound was done 4 days after my menstrual cycle was completed. I then had a repeat ultrasound done a few months after the initial ultrasound and just found out my lining measured 15cm, 1 week after the completion of my menstruation. Are these numbers alarming? Is it possible that someone mistakenly used cm instead of mm?

Hi,
I understand your concern.
The endometrial thickness increases due to hormonal changes in menstrual cycle.
* POst menstrual thickness is 1mm-4mm on an average, as all the endometrium formed is shed off during periods.
* First half of cycle is under influence of estrogen hormone & is pertaining to proloferation of blood vessels under inner uterine lining.( on an average it is 4mm -8mm.)
* In later half of cycle thre blood vessels taht are formed till now, get filled/engorged with blood. So the thickness increases to 8mm-16mm on an average.
** the normal endometrium is always measurable in MM scale, not in cm
scale.
So the second reading you have (15 Cm ) seems to be is either error in reporting or reading.
Please get it done once again at the same phase of cycle/ consult a gynecologist for clinical examination/ investigations/ endometrial biopsy--as per need.
Thanks.
