What Causes Increased NT At 13 Weeks Of Pregnancy?
hi I am 36 years old and at my 13 week scan the NT measurement was 3mm, together with the bloods the risk for downs is 1:600. my dr recommends amnio but the risk of loosing a the baby is at least 1:400 so higher than the DS risk, what should I do? what else causes increased NT, is 3mm really so bad?
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Increased NTcan be due to chromosomal anomalies like Down syndrome, structural anomalies or due to genetic syndrome. If the serum screening shows a low risk of less than 1 in 600 for Down syndrome, then the chances of this condition is quite low. However, amniocentesis is advisable as serum screening is not 100% sensitive in the diagnosis. Hope you found the answer helpful . Wishing you good health. Dr Deepti Verma
