Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
MY WIFE HAS INDIGESTION PROBLEMS AND TAKES NEXIUM ONCE DAILY. SHE HAS HAD TWO OPEN HEART SURGERIES THAT REPLACED HER MITRO VALVE AND SECOND HER AORTIC VALVE...SHE HAD A BONE SCAN LAST WEEK AND HAS A T-SCORE OF -3.. HER DR RECOMMENDED SHE TAKE A PROLIA INJECTION BI-ANNUALLY. AFTER READING THE SIDE EFFECTS OF THE PROLIA ESPECIALLY THE RISK OF INFECTION AND INFLAMMATION OF THE HEART AREA, WE ARE CONSIDERING THE BONIVA 3 MONTH INJECTIONS. WHAT IS YOUR RECOMMENDATION ON WHICH WOULD BE THE BEST CHOICE OR EVEN OTHER OPTIONS
Non of the injection I would advise for but condition has to be managed on supportive role and on oral medication, with the heart surgery care need to be taken for all the injectable medicine in such case every decision need to be taken seriously in presence of cardiologist, the most important is her clinical symptoms and that is not being discuss here. (No medicine can prevent the osteoporosis.)
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Akhtarhusain, General & Family Physician
