What Causes Inflammation On The Toes?

Husband has really red, inflamed looking toes. I think he had it once before and at the time the doctor told him it was a side effect from his high blood pressure medicine. He is on a different medication now. He is taking Losartan Potassium/hydrochlorothiazide, He does not have diabetes. I just checked his blood glucose and he had been drinking juice this morning. It was 93.

Hello,

Does your husband drink? Red, inflamed toes could indicate gout, which is due to an increased level of uric acid in your blood. It could also be due to rheumatoid arthritis.

Kindly also rule out any history of trauma in order to avoid any fractures. I would hence suggest you get his uric acid level, rheumatic factor, kidney function tests checked. Also get an x-ray of his toe done and his Blood Pressure checked.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purnima Sharma
