What Causes Inflammatory Cells In The Stool?

Feb. 21 2014 I had L-5/S-1 discectomy. Discharged next morning 22nd. Feb. 24th its been diarrhea for past 3 months. Lab work on blood and urine all ok. Dr. says inflammatory cells in stool. I never heard of such condition. What does this mean? What steps are to be taken? Also heard of Neurogenic Bowel Dysfunction. Cud that have been caused during discectomy ?

hello,
1) neurogenic bowel dysfunction cause uncontrolled bowel movements. bowel movement must be normal before surgery to consider neurogenic bowel dysfunction.
2) for some extent WBC cells in stool are normal. they are indicated only in abnormal high value, presence of excessive mucus in stool, severe diarrhea with abdominal pain.
3) if you have increased frequency of stool, liquid to semi-solid consistency of stool with abnormal high level of WBC cells in stool then you should undergo stool culture examination on suspicion of bacterial/parasitic infection.
