What Causes Intense Ear Infection In Higher Altitude Region?
My mom had an ear infection that caused her ear drum to rupture. They re in a lower altitude but need to drive to a higher altitude next week. Will that change in altitude cause further damage to her ear drum and could it cause permanent hearing damage?
Hi. Thanks for your query and information about your mother. Read and understood the history of your Mother suffering from ear drum perforation due to ear infection. Now you are in lower altitude and planning to go high altitude. This will not change any thing in that particular ear since there is already a perforation hence the effect of the altitude can not occur as now the ear is open to the altitude changes directly. If she has attendant nasal, pharyngeal or other Eustachian tube problem she should be treated properly to avoid the problem with the other normal ear as there will be effect.
I hope this answers your query with an explanation.
