What Causes Intense Itching And Pimples On Back, neck And Armpits?

First symptom I have had is an intense itch all over but no rash, just some little pimples and bite looking marks. My scalp, armpits and back of neck are where the itch is most intense. The itch began almost 7 months ago. Early on I had a lot of headaches. Another symptom is that I seem to be sweating more than usual. I am getting increasingly tired, lethargic, light headed and can no longer participate in exercise as it makes me feel nauseous. (I used to train 6 times a week and was very fit before this). I also suffer from right flank pain, especially at night, and experience a lot of lower back pain upon waking. I have had a lot of UTIs in the past year and recently I ve noticed a lot of white floaters in my urine. So far doctors and dermatologist have ruled out Scabies, allergies, lupus, diabetes and numerous other possibilities and have treated it as a possible streptococcal or staph infection. I have had 5 courses of cephalexin antibiotics and am now on a course of Doxycycline as well as Endep to help with the itching. I am also taking Kephlex to treat a recent UTI. I also have a slightly swollen oxcipital lymph node which has stayed swollen for around 3 months now. I ve have had numerous blood tests and the only abnormality thus far has been low iron and borderline liver function. My blood pressure was slightly high on my last visit to my doctor. I am only 35 and was very active up until the last 3 months. I feel like I am not getting close to finding any answers. I have been on the Doxycycline for 1 month so far and if I don t take the Endep the itch is still as intense as it was when it first started.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your case history, you are having folliculitis and intertrigo. My treatment advice is:

1. Don't squeeze the lesions as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic plus steroid cream like Fusiderm cream.
3. Take a NSAID like ibuprofen. Consult your physician for prescription.
4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics, oral fluconazole to be taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harshit Bhachech
