What Causes Intense Left-sided Chest Pain And Swelling While Treating Bronchitis?

received meds (zpak, medrol pills, and nebulizer q6hr), for bronchitis (pneumonia ruled out by x-ray ) now going on 48hrs, coughing has been so severe when mucus builds up, it becomes spasmodic--- I now have a large area on Lside of diaphragm, and also near pancreas area, that is now giving me acute on a level of 9-10, localized pain, swelling and tenderness remain till next coughing spell. I cannot lie down or get any rest. I do not have pain upon breathing, or fever now-- localized coughing pain is sever and localized enough that I am concerned. It is nite time here, I and do not think it warrants an ER visit, but what else can I do to relieve this problem.

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Possibility of musculoskeletal pain due to excessive coughing is more likely.
Coughing causes strain on ribs and intercostal muscles.
So apply warm water pad on affected areas of chest.
Take painkiller and muscle relaxant drugs like ibuprofen and thiocolchicoside.
Avoid movements causing pain.
Don't worry, you will be alright with all these.
Pain will definitely subside.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
