Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had paralyzing intense pressure pain in my head that makes me stop what I m doing because I cannot move my head. As it dulls away is till feel pain in my head but especially in upper neck in my back. My temple area has also been in extreme pain on and off and this has been going on for 2 days now. When I lay my head down I feel more dizzy and faint than if I keep my head upright. I am a female 30 years of age and have under active thyroid disorder that I take medication for. I was just at my gynecologist 3 days ago and he told me to please make an appointment with my regular doctor as soon as possible because my blood pressure was high enough to have to control with medication. What should I do?
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns. There is no definite relationship between the occurrence of headache or pressure pain in head and high blood pressure, and most of the patients are free of headache when the blood pressure is at its highest. In a setting of intense pressure pain in head involving temple area and back of upper neck on & off for 02 days-one needs to consider Migraine, the second most common cause of headache, especially in women . Sudden onset of severe headache may occur in the absence of any known provocation. The differential diagnosis includes the sentinel bleed of an intracranial aneurysm, cervico-cephalic arterial dissection, and cerebral venous thrombosis.Brain imaging like MRI brain will help to come to a diagnosis.
