What Causes Intermentrual Bleeding?

Two weeks ago I had my period which lasted roughly six days. When my period was done, my husband and I had sex. Two days after that I started bleeding again. Very light at first, but now a week later, I m passing very large blood clots. I know this is gross, but they actually push my tampon out, or come out while my tampon is still inserted. I m having to change my tampon every 30 mins to an hour. I can sit on the toilet and literally push a blood clot out. Not every time, but at least 50% of the time. The weird thing is, I have no cramping. They are a very dark purple/maroon color. I have experienced this before over the past 6 months or so, but never this severe. Other than the inconvenience, I actually feel pretty good. Advice please!!

OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine 's  Response
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Intermenstrual bleeding can be due to local lesions in cervix or vagina including cervical cancer, or can be due to hormonal disturbances in the body.
I would suggest you to consult an OBGYN specialist to get properly examined, investigated( pap smear, ultrasound, endometrial biopsy if needed) and get appropriate treatment.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Wishing you good health.
