What Causes Intermittent Burning, Sharp Pain In The Groin?

Occasionally, I have a burning sharp pain in the groin area. I am a female. The pain first occurred when I was standing at the kitchen sink and leaning down on my left to load dishwasher. The pain is in the groin area and is very sharp and I immediately have to put my weight on the other leg. It is always sudden and unexpected. I would have to go to my knees if there were not something to hang on to to hold me up. The pain subsides in a few minutes. What can this be? It has happened on each side of groin. Comes and goes.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The pain you are experiencing can either be due to ureteric stones or a hernia.

Physical examination and urine analysis are needed as an initial screening evaluation, followed by CT kidney, ureter, bladder if needed.

Please follow up with your primary provider for necessary evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Lekshmi Rita Venugopal, General & Family Physician
