Hi there. I keep getting intermittent sharp chest pain, even when resting. I am under a lot of stress at the moment and have been taking ssris - Paxil - for several weeks, only 5-10 mg a day although I think the pain started before taking them. I m a 50 year single mom of two. Karen
Thanks for your question on HCM. I can understand your situation and problem. In my opinion your chest pain is mostly due to anxiety but better to rule out cardiac cause first. Because at your age (50), cardio protective effect of estrogen is decreased due to menopause. So at this age women are at risk of cardiac disease. So get done ECG first. If ECG is normal than no need to worry for cardiac cause. Anxiety appears more in your case. In the treatment of anxiety, along with drugs, psychiatric counselling is important. So consult psychiatrist and get done counselling sessions. Try to identify stressor in your life and start working on its solution. Avoid stress and anxiety. Be relax and calm. You will be alright, don't worry.
