Hi, I’m 49 and taking demulen, my last cycle finished on Sept.13th and then I started spotting (light brown) on the 27th and have pretty much everyday now. I usually have a period every 6 wks by using the pill. There is slight cramping as well off and on. The spotting is anywhere from the size of a quarter to half a light liner most times. Why do you think this is happening? Thanks
Hello, I have gone through your query and understood the concern. This is likely to be the breakthrough bleeding. This can happen when the hormones supplemented are not sufficient to maintain prolonged cycles. This can happen when the body fails to produce enough hormone as in peri-menopause and menopause. considering your age and the fact that you use the pill to induce the period, hormonal insufficiency is the most likely cause. Yet, a proper clinical evaluation is mandatory to exclude other causes like erosions, infections, polyps etc. A pelvic/trans-vaginal sonogram is very helpful. Hope this helps.
