Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Irregular Heart Beats And Fluttering When On Liothyronine?
I had a normal EKG prior to thyroidectomy for papillary thyroid cancer in November 2011. I have been taking Liothyronine 5MCG twice a day for 7 months. Noticing intermittent irregular pulse/skipped beats and fluttering only occasionally. Had a preoperative clearance and EKG showed right bundle branch block. Any correlation noted with either Liothyronine, or combination with Synthroid .125?
hello your symptoms seem to due to premature contractions either ventricular or atrial. I will explain what it is- premature contractions occur earlier than expected and are followed by a pause. these produce the symptoms of palpitation and skipped best. -since your EKG and echocardiography were normal, heart is structurally fine. -sometimes excess of thyroid hormone might produce premature contractions , monitor your thyroid function. -one question what is your heart rate while you are resting? because that will give us a rough idea about thyroid function. -thanks for asking , hope you find it useful
